For some, March Madness means college NCAA basketball playoff season, while for others March Madness means touring Ohio Maple country, watching the smoke rise from the sugar houses, sampling various products made from maple sugar, and enjoying pancakes smothered in 100% PURE MAPLE golden goodness.
Over the past ten years, NorthernOhioTourism.com has been helping those who seek to partake in this “madness” by supplying a list of where one can find this natural sugar sweetness. Below is just a sampling of some of the maple syrup events happening in Ohio.

OLMSTED HISTORICAL SOCIETY PANCAKE BREAKFASTS

Burton, Ohio is Geauga County’s oldest and first official settlement. Located on the square is the Burton Log Cabin Sugar Camp. Here they make and sell some of the best pure Ohio maple syrup.
“In 1931, during the throes of the Great Depression a group of dedicated members of the Burton Chamber of Commerce had an idea to combat the difficult economic times. The idea was to construct a log cabin in the park in Burton for the purposes of making and selling maple syrup.” – excerpt from Burton Chamber of Commerce.

Get a sweet taste of how maple sugaring methods have evolved from the Native American tradition to modern methods! Help gather sap in the sugarbush with the help of a horse-drawn sap sled, experience tapping, gathering and boiling methods used throughout history, see sap boiling in the sugar house and have a taste of what’s cooking, then warm up in the lodge with maple treats and live music by Mr. Haney String Band. The Geauga County Maple Festival

The Geauga County Maple Festival, the oldest maple festival in the United States, celebrates the production of pure maple syrup in Geauga County and Northeast Ohio. For over 50 years the Chatham VFW has hosted a Pancake Breakfast for the community. Come and enjoy the all-you-can-eat whole wheat pancakes prepared by a well-run kitchen staff.
