This year why not celebrate the shortest day of the year? In the Northern Hemisphere Winter solstice will be at 11:19 PM. (EST). To help you celebrate we have listed a few of Ohio’s Winter Solstice events.

WINTER SOLSTICE LABYRINTH WALK

THINK & DRINK WITH THE EXTINCT: Winter Solstice

WINTER SOLSTICE LUMINARY HIKE AND CAMPFIRE

Winter has just started, but the sun will stay out longer with each passing day. Let’s celebrate the start of winter by walking a luminary-lit woodland trail, then enjoy a warm campfire, hot chocolate and fun stories.

 


WINTER SOLSTICE SUNRISE

After the leaves fall and the trees are bare, guests can clearly view the 2,000-year-old earthen walls as the sun rises on the shortest day of the year. Experience the solstice as ancient people may have done during this ceremonial moment that has been lost through time.

Note: Gates open at 7:15 a.m. and the program will begin at 7:30. The Sun will rise at around 8:00, and the program will be completed by 8:20.

This event is FREE to the public.

WINTER SOLSTICE CELEBRATION
Date: Saturday, December 21, 2019

Indoors, take in cookies and hot cider while listening to festive music of the season performed by the Pilgrim Brass Choir. Also, children are invited to try a free solstice-themed craft.

Then, outdoors, stroll the self-guided Solstice Traditions Trail, a magical, candlelit route through the forest; warm up by a bonfire; and stop by the stage area to watch costumed interpreters perform interactive skits highlighting solstice traditions of past civilizations, i.e. the Druids and the origins of mistletoe.

Please dress for time spent indoors and out. Only indoor portions will be fully wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration is not required for this free event. Please call 440-286-9516 with questions.

 


CELEBRATE THE WINTER SOLSTICE

Enjoy an evening filled with night strolls, roasting marshmallows, meeting wildlife, listening to campfire stories, crafts and discovering the traditions of the solstice. Join in on this fun-filled evening of light as we come together to celebrate a tradition that has been revered for thousands of years.

As an added bonus, Candy Land gone to the BIRDS! indoor winter wonderland exhibit is included for solstice registered participants throughout the event.
