It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Every year we receive numerous emails wanting suggestions of fun places to shop for the holidays.  Many are looking for a shopping day out with family and friends.  So this year My Ohio Fun has started a list of some of our favorite places to find holiday decor and unique gift items, including a few #MyOhioFun Road Trip notes. Happy shopping!

4374 Shreve Rd, Wooster, OH 44691 |

Located just on the outskirts of Downtown Wooster, Pine Tree Barn offers home furnishings, beautiful holiday decor and ornaments, and yes even a tree farm.

A visit to Pine Tree Barn would not be complete without enjoying time in their Granary Restaurant.  The perfect place to enjoy a respite from the days shopping.  The restaurant offers a nice selection of choices including French Onion Soup, a Black & Bleu Steak Salad, crepes, flatbread pizzas, pasta, and my absolute favorite combination, a slice of the days quiche alongside a portion of their spinach salad with warm bacon dressing.  Make sure you leave room for  one of their famous Lemon Crumb Muffins!

4779 Kidron Rd., Dalton, OH 44618 | 800.438.5346 | website

Every holiday season we always make sure to stop at Lehman’s in Kidron for any kitchen utensils or baking pans we may need for holiday baking.   We also enjoy their lantern section.  They make the perfect gift and a great way to add a warm holiday glow to your home.  A stop at Lehman’s would not be complete until you check out  the retro soda pop department. #GrapeNehi  Word to the wise.  Allow time to shop all the departments including the holiday department.

Not far from Wooster in Orrville, Ohio just north of the J.M. Smucker Company Store and Cafe you will find Journey in Time.  This antique store is not your normal antique store.  Inside you will find everything from primitive furnishings to unique pieces from the past.  For those who want to create that farmhouse holiday, this is your place.

#MyOhioFun Road Trip notes:

Yes, we know it’s winter, but a stop at Rees’ Corner Olde Fashioned Soda Shoppe and Pharmacy is a must.  Take a seat at one of the few old-fashioned soda fountains in Ohio.  The root beer float is such a treat.  After a long day of shopping you deserve it.

260 S. Court Street, Medina, OH 44256 | 330.721.NOEL (6635) |

For some of us it just wouldn’t be the holiday season until we have enjoyed a bit of punch in our National Lampoon Christmas Vacation moose mug.  If you or someone on your holiday list is a fan of Christmas movies, then a stop at Castle Noel in Medina, Ohio should be on your to do list.   From moose mugs to “A Christmas Story” movie ornaments, the museum shop offers a wonderful selection of items, including special designed ornaments and sculptures by Mark Klaus.

Leave time in your shopping day to tour Castle Noel.  Wow at all the toys through the years and slide down the famous Christmas Story slide.  Then take a picture next to Cousin Eddie’s trailer that was featured in the National Lampoon Christmas Vacation movie.  Be amazed by the beautiful New York window displays.

#MyOhioFun Road Trip notes:

Another great place to shop in Medina is the A.I. Root Candle Company Store. For over 150 years, this candle company with it’s rich history in the beekeeping industry, still fills all their candles with an all-natural beeswax blend.  The company store offers a wonderful selection of scented candles.  I always stock up on their various sizes of dinner candles.  Don’t forget to check the outlet store around the corner.  You never know what bargains you will find there.

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a stop at Hixson’s Floral Barn.  Known as Mr. Christmas, Bill Hixson has found his place in the who’s who of holiday floral design and custom designed holiday ornaments. Bill’s career has also included assisting in the holiday decorating at the White House.

Don’t let the large Raggedy Ann doll in the window scare you.  You will be amazed at the number of ornaments and holiday displays in this one-of-a-kind store.  Need a pickle ornament? He has them. Need bird ornaments? He has those too.  Looking for a bit of Cleveland history.  Check out his Mr. Jingeling ornament.  Make sure you look Bill’s collection of White House ornaments.

We hope you find time to visit one or all of these shops in your quest for the perfect gift or holiday decor.  As My Ohio Fun continues our holiday shopping, we will be sure to share any additional places we may find worth writing about.
