“Mamma Mia!” opens July 19 at Rabbit Run Theater

MADISON, OH – The musical “Mamma Mia” takes center stage at Rabbit Run Theater beginning July 19 through Aug. 10.

Nominated for five Tony Awards, “Mamma Mia!” was originally conceived by Judy Craymer. Music and lyrics are by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus with some songs with Stig Anderson. The book was by Catherine Johnson.

“Mamma Mia!” ran on Broadway for 14 years and was the seventh longest running musical in Broadway history. The musical is based on the songs of ABBA, a Swedish pop group active in the seventies and early eighties.

The magic of Abba’s songs propel this tale of love, laughter and friendship that unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.

The show is directed by Scott Posey, who has performed and directed in numerous shows at Rabbit Run Theater. Posey serves as the head of the Performing Arts Department at Lake Catholic High School, as well the director of Note-Oriety Show Choir in Solon. Scott holds a Bachelor of Music from Baldwin-Wallace College and a Master of Fine Arts from Kent State University and is a member of Actors Equity Association.

Musical direction is provided by Alex Ulle, and choreography is created by Jill Tschetter.

Filling the roles of the three Dynamos are Emily Stack as Donna, Katrina Brill as Rosie and Sharyn Zeppo as Tanya. The three fathers are portrayed by J. J. Luster as Sam, Josh Esenwine as Harry and Mark Crowley as Bill. Sophie is played by Haley Gagnon, and her finance, Sky, is played by John Kost.

“Mamma Mia!” opens Friday, July 19, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 10, and is rated 13+ for content.
