Lake Erie Shores & Islands Offers Reasons to Visit in 2016
May, 24, 2016 (Sandusky, Ohio) – The summer travel season is quickly approaching and families will soon be planning their Lake Erie Shores & Islands getaways. There are always new reasons to #LakeErieLove it here! Check out our top nine must-do’s for 2016.
Dare to Dive on Valravn – The world’s tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster just debuted at Cedar Point Amusement Park. Valravn, the premier attraction’s 18th roller coaster, features a 214-ft, completely vertical free-fall, speeds up to 75 mph, and three inversions – the most of any dive coaster in the world.

Jet to the Point – Nearly two decades have passed since ferry service from downtown Sandusky to Cedar Point has been available. Jet Express, which ferries visitors to the Lake Erie islands, is offering daily trips to the park from the Jackson Street Pier. The 10-minute trip costs only $5 and is offered twice a day this summer.
I’m on a Boat! – See the Lake Erie islands from a new point-of-view with Put-in-Bay Boat Tours. Enjoy sites you can only observe from the water with short or long trips for groups of four to six, departing from South Bass Island State Park.
Taste of the Islands – The Put-in-Bay Brewery and Distillery celebrates its 20th anniversary with a massive renovation including an updated exterior and additional seating. While the brewery is now two-decades old, it began distilling and serving Island Vodka and Island Rum just last year.
Take Home the Lake Erie Love – Speaking of local brews, last year Catawba Island Brewing Companyintroduced a craft beer which helps protect our Great Lake with every sip – Lake Erie Love Light. Now, not only can you take home a growler filled with the Kolsch-style ale, but you can also purchase souvenir pint glasses with the Lake Erie Love logo.
For When Your Kids are Wild – Jungle Junction, a family-friendly play and party center, just opened as the largest indoor playground in Ohio. Offering six levels of weather-proof fun, the structure includes air-compressed ball canons, slides, and obstacles and is geared towards children under 12 yrs.
Splashin’ Safari – Watering Hole Safari & Water Park is the name of the former Monsoon Lagoon now under new ownership. The park has added a new animal attraction with over 500 animals on display and still includes popular water slides, go-karts, mini-golf, and bumper boats.
Tour de Sandusky – Explore Sandusky’s historic downtown waterfront on two wheels with a bike fromVogontz Bike Share. The bright orange cruisers are available to rent at several spots around town – users download the Donkey Republic app and reserve a bike for 2 to 24 hours.
Up, Up, & Away – Sawmill Creek Resort offers two new ways to experience a birds-eye view of the Shores & Islands. Float in the sky for up to one hour with a hot air balloon ride; or take a quick, scenic helicopter tour with views of Cedar Point and the islands.
With so many fun new experiences, you’ll want plan several days of to enjoy it all. Luckily, Lake Erie Shores & Islands has additional lodging options available this year. Check out the all-new Holiday Inn Express & Suites at the Cedar Point Causeway or one of the new upscale Put-in-Bay Condos near the island airport.
