Have you ever taken a road trip to Duma Meats Farm Market in Mogadore? If you are a person that likes to stop at the local “neighborhood butcher” for the best burgers, steaks and pork products, this is one Ohio meat market you need to make sure you put on your road trip visit list.

What started as a little meat market in a house in Clinton OH, has really grown since its humble roots in 1920. Five generations later and with a larger store front, Duma Meats is still a go-to-spot for locals looking for the best meat selection. It’s also one of the best kept secrets.

From beef, pork to poultry to lamb and veal, Duma’s carries just about every kind of meat. Sausage and hot dog lovers will relish in the large selection of homemade sausages, kielbasa, and hot dogs. The various marinated chicken breasts make cooking dinner a breeze.

Duma’s also makes their own homemade deli meats and deli products like ham and chicken salad and their own cheeseball. Another popular item is their homemade beef sticks and jerky. Great to take along on a road trip!

WARNING! If you love bacon, their homemade bacon jerky is addicting! Regret. I should have bought more.

And for our four-legged friends, they sell dog bones and pig ears.

Things to know before you go:
Bring a cooler. Maybe two or three.
A frozen food section that includes vegetables, various potato choices, appetizers, and frozen fruit is also located in the market.
Saturday mornings can get a bit busy, but the lines at the meat and deli counters move fast.
Duma Meats also sells larger amounts, like side of beef and bundle packs. Check their website for details or visit their customer window.
During the holiday season, turkeys and hams are available to order.

The Bakers

Officially opening in 2016, owners Jud and Genevieve Smith turned their once cottage food business into a thriving artisan European style bakery. Only using organic grains and local ingredients, their breads have become a reason to make a pilgrimage to their doors.

Every time I find myself in the area, I make sure to purchase 2-3 loaves of their Multigrain Sourdough and their Cranberry Walnut Sourdough. Two of my favorites. Their breads can be sliced, if they have cooled enough. They also freeze well.

A few of my other favorite items are their Sea Salt Focaccia, their Simit (Turkish Bagel), make sure you get the “everything” topping, and their Pepperoni Rolls.

For those who enjoy a good cookie or pastry, you will not be disappointed. The hardest part will be deciding what to purchase. On Saturdays, they make their famous pizzas.

Coffee and tea available to purchase.
Also available for purchase is local honey and jams.
Their is a small seating area if you want to enjoy your purchase there.

The Candle Maker

Wait. Honey Bee Farm a candle maker? Yep! Not only do they produce some of the best honey in Portage County, they also make beeswax candles. Candles can be purchased online through their store. Their Honey Hut is always open for self-serve honey, Ohio maple syrup and when available eggs.

You will also find Kline Honey being sold at the Haymakers Farmers Market in Kent, every Saturday. Pro tip: Get their hot pepper infused honey. Drizzle a little on your next piece of chicken or a little on your pizza. It is not super hot, but it does have a nice sweet tang.
