The Hale Farm & Village Agriculture Department Highlighted During Harvest Festival, October 7, 8, 14, & 15

For Immediate Release, Bath, Ohio – Nestled in Cuyahoga Valley, the arrival of fall creates spectacular scenery at Hale Farm & Village. Guests are invited to our annual Harvest Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 7, 8, 14, and 15. This family-friendly event offers seasonal experiences such as cider press demonstrations, apple butter churning demonstrations, meeting with Johnny Appleseed, pumpkin painting, and more! In addition to these autumn-themed activities, the artisans at Hale Farm & Village will be creating handcrafted at Hale items, and our 30+ historic buildings will be open to experience.

Sherri Wesner, the Agriculture and Horticulture Coordinator at Hale Farm & Village, has been preparing our gardens since the spring to have a successful harvest in the fall. “For Harvest Fest, I’m keeping the weeds down in the gardens and picking the spent flowers, vegetables, and fruits so that the plant will continue to bloom” Sherri explained. “To keep these crops producing throughout the season, they must be sowed and harvested consecutively.” The Pioneer or Subsistence Garden on property is ripe with vegetables that typically overwinter, such as onions, cabbage, potatoes, beets, squash, and carrots. Flowers from the Goldsmith, or Cutting Garden are being deadheaded and their seeds are being collected for the next year as well. Moreover, Sherri has also been maintaining the festive fall produce such as corn, watermelons, and pumpkins.

Admission to the Harvest Festival is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 3 to 12, and free for children under 2 years old and Western Reserve Historical Society members. The admission price to the Harvest Festival includes festival activities and access to all historic structures as well as early American craft and trade demonstrations, which include glassblowing, blacksmithing, pottery, broom making, candle dipping, spinning and weaving. The Hale Café will be open and serving seasonal favorites such as pumpkin pie and hot apple cider. The MarketPlace at Hale Farm & Village will also be offering seasonal hand-blown glass pumpkins, Ohio made apple and pumpkin butter, and other locally made artisan items.

In addition to the events of the festival each weekend, Hale Farm also hosts the Hale Harvest 5K run on the morning of October 7. The three-mile loop course invites runners and walkers to experience the natural beauty of Hale Farm as they run along nature trails, past historic houses, through the Hale sugar bush, in farmyards, and across creeks. The top three overall finishers as well as the top male and female finishers per category receive handcrafted pieces from Hale Farm & Village’s early American craft and trade artisans. Registration fee is aged based per runner and includes free admission to the Harvest Festival on race day. Runners can register online at halefarm.org.
