BRIGADE RETURNS TO FORT STEUBEN

September 21 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Two days of demonstrating 18th century life on the Ohio frontier will be held at Historic Fort Steuben by the Brigade of the American Revolution on September 20 and 21, 2024.

“This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the skills and crafts of those who settled this Ohio Country back in the 1700s, with a particular emphasis on the military,” explained Judy Bratten, Director of the reconstructed Fort Steuben and Visitor Center. “The reenactors of the Brigade are experts and encourage hands-on activities with visitors.”

The encampment will include stations where reenactors will give the history and demonstrate the skills involved in such things as medical care, cartridge rolling, table games, period tools, and military music. There will be clothing to try on and carding and spinning with student participation. Men representing both American and British soldiers will tell their stories, and a Native American perspective culture will also be presented. A musket demonstration emphasizing flint and steel technology and an artillery demonstration will top the event off with a bang!

“Thanks to a donation from the Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio, we are able to offer free admission to local schools and homeschoolers who register for the Friday presentation. The public is invited to visit on Saturday at our regular admission fees,” Bratten noted. “Tours of the Fort, the First Federal Land Office, and the newly created Museum of Surveying are included.”

Historic Fort Steuben is open from 10am to 4pm and is located at 120 S. 3rd Street in Steubenville, Ohio. Admission is General, $12; Senior, $10; Youth 6-12, $7; Under 6, free. For more information call 740.283.1787.
