“Titanic, the Musical” opens at Rabbit Run Theater

MADISON, OH – The next production in the 2022 summer season at Rabbit Run Theater is “Titanic, the Musical, Ensemble Version”, opening June 24 and running through July 9.

With the story and book by Peter Stone, music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and orchestrations by Ian Weinberger, “Titanic, the Musical” is a five-time, Tony Award winning production, including Best Musical (1997).

On April 14, 1912, four days into the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic, at 11:40 p.m., the ship grazed an iceberg causing the hull plates to buckle. At 2:20 a.m. Titanic broke in half and sank.

Of the over 2,200 people on board, more than 1,500 perished in the deadliest peacetime sinking of a ship.

“Titanic, the Musical”, is a stirring account of the first and last days of this ship of dreams. Told through the real-life characters, this epic production grips the heart with its depth of human passion and courage.

The show is directed by Brint Learned, executive director at Rabbit Run Community Arts Association (RRCAA). Learned has acted and directed at area theaters, including The Fine Arts Association, Rabbit Run Theater, Lake Erie College, The Beck Center, Lakeland Civic Theatre and Ashtabula Arts Center.

Musical direction is provided by Danielle Jones, who has musically directed and performed in numerous productions at Rabbit Run and holds a Master’s Degree in music education.

Hannah Hrutkay, dance director at RRCAA, is the show’s choreographer. Hurtkay has a long association with Rabbit Run Theater having choreographed and performed in many productions.

The Titanic’s lead architect Thomas Andrews is played by Eric Mortensen. Ships’s owner, J. Bruce Ismay, in played by Joe Kenderes and Greg Gnau, in a reprisal performance, is playing Captain Smith. Gnau portrayed Captain Smith in Rabbit Run’s 2008 production of “Titanic, the Musical”.

Tickets for all performances are available by calling the box office at 440-428-7092, Wednesday through Sunday, 3 to 7 p.m. or on line at www.rabbitrun.org. Tickets are $27, adult; $25, senior and student; and $13 for youth 12 and under. For group packages and rates call 440-428-5913.

The show is rated for general audiences.

Guests are welcome to bring a picnic meal to enjoy on the grounds of the theater prior to a show in the picnic pavilion or courtyards.

While at the theater patrons have the opportunity to purchase a raffle ticket for Bunny Bucks Cash Raffle, RRCAA’s annual fundraiser.

The Grand Prize is $10,000; second place prize is $4,000, and the third place prize is $1,000. Twenty-two additional Bonus Prizes, each with a value of at least $100, are being awarded weekly through Aug. 22.

Only 1,000 tickets will be sold. Tickets are $50 each. The cash prizes will be announced Aug. 27. Tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at 440-428-7092, the RRCAA office at 440-428-5913 or online at rabbitrun.org.
