Bath, Ohio — After a two-year hiatus, Ohio’s largest Civil War event returns. The 90-acre Hale Farm & Village grounds will transform as period reenactors stroll among the mid-nineteenth century outdoor living history museum, nestled in the heart of the Cuyahoga Valley. Visit Hale Farm & Village on August 13 and 14, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day, to experience the sights, sounds, and perspectives of life in the 1860’s.
Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHS) and Hale Farm & Village are nationally recognized for having one of the finest and most comprehensive collections of Civil War history in the United States. WRHS interprets Civil War history through its exhibits, K-12 educational programs, publications, genealogical seminars, and through the presentation of immersive living history experiences, including the annual Civil War Reenactment at Hale Farm & Village and exhibit of Civil War Collections at the Cleveland History Center in University Circle.
Beginning Saturday, August 13, guests can immerse themselves in the Civil War period during a full weekend of programming at Hale Farm & Village. Presentations, programs and demonstrations take place across the 90-acre property throughout the weekend and highlight the experiences of soldiers and civilians during the 1860’s. Union and Confederate camps offer glimpses into the daily lives of soldiers, and special programs emphasize the impact of the period on the lives of women and African Americans. Civil War reenactors will be encamped, and guests are invited to explore the camps and speak with soldiers, cavalry and civilians. Period lifeways demonstrations include cooking, music, games, medicine and religious services, and more. Cavalry mounted drills, soldier drills, and artillery demonstrations take place throughout the weekend.
Event highlights include living history presentations of historic figures, like Dred Scott, Sara Lucy Bagby and Mary Todd Lincoln, musical performances by Camp Chase Fife and Drum Corps, a Civil War History Presentation by Dr. Kevin Adams, Chair of the History Department at Kent State University, and shopping along Sutler’s Row for Civil War merchandise. Please visit our website at www.halefarm.org for additional information about these special program offerings. On Saturday, August 13 at 2:30pm and Sunday, August 14 at 2:00pm, guests experience the recreation of the Battle of Brawner’s Farm, the beginning of the Second Battle of Manassas on August 28, 1862. During this battle, Union forces felt they had cornered General Stonewall Jackson’s forces, but were unaware that thousands of Confederate infantry under General Robert E. Lee were nearby.
“We are very excited for the return of Civil War weekend at Hale Farm & Village. It provides a truly immersive experience for our guests, bringing American history to life.” said Travis Henline, Director of Hale Farm & Village. “This year’s event will explore many perspectives from the era as we expand our program offerings. You won’t want to miss it.”
Advance tickets are available for the weekend-long event, with regular admission for one-day visitors and special pricing for those who choose to purchase two-day tickets. For adults, a two-day ticket is $25.00 ($15.00 for one day) and children two-day admission is $14.00 ($8.00 for one day). Online ticket sales will be offered until 5pm on August 12.
