Ohio Road Trips

There is something special in that hillside.

Did you know you can stay underground in Ohio’s Amish Country? I recently had the opportunity to tour the completely remodeled and truly unique Honeycombs at the Inn at Honey Run.

The Honeycombs

Just a few minutes from downtown Millersburg, tucked into a hillside with beautiful countryside views, you’ll find the Honeycombs at the Inn at Honey Run. If you’re lucky enough to secure a stay in one of the twelve theme-inspired rooms, you’ll notice the thought and detail that went into every element—from the placement of the bed and lighting to the individually designed furniture created for each room. From the entryway flooring to the bathrooms to the curtains. Everything was incorporated into the design of each room.

Tribeca Room

The Tribeca Room offers a classic rustic feel, while the Melano Room pays homage to the Memphis Milano Group, who used shapes and colors to create a sense of playfulness. No two rooms are alike, and each one is as warm and inviting as the next.

The Melano Room. How fun is that dresser?

What makes these rooms even more special is that all of the wood pieces were made by craftspeople at Homestead Furniture & Interiors in Mt. Hope, Ohio. The artistry and unique designs may surprise anyone who has a picture in their mind of traditional Amish-made furniture.  I had my eye on quite a few pieces, and luckily for me—though maybe not for my wallet—each room includes the names of the design pieces, Then you just go online and visit the Inn shop on the Homestead Furniture’s website.

OTHER ACCOMMODATIONS

If you’re not sure you want to stay in one of the Honeycombs, additional accommodations are available on the property, including two cottages and 25 inn rooms.

Tarragon Restaurant

When you choose to dine at the on-site Tarragon Restaurant, you’ll find large floor-to-ceiling windows with nature views, a wood-beam vaulted ceiling, and an Alpine-inspired menu filled with delightful options. Full-service bar available.

On the day of my visit, I enjoyed one of the best quiche Lorraines I’ve had in a long time. Hats off to Executive Chef Bret Andreasen, who created Tarragon’s inviting menu. And if you’re stopping in for brunch, don’t skip the home fries.
