Clary Gardens

Summer is the perfect time to visit Clary Gardens, Coshocton County The garden’s mission is to involve the community in developing and maintaining a public botanical garden that provides access to horticultural education, environmental stewardship, local history and the arts. Visitors are encouraged to hike and explore! The “Upper Paths” feature natural and artificial walking surfaces such as grass and limestone and have stairs, slopes, and uneven terrain. The “Lower Paths,” and those surrounding the new event space are paved, allowing access for those who use assistive devices. Assistance for persons using wheelchairs or walkers is recommended, as are comfortable shoes to explore all areas.

Clary Gardens

Clary Garden’s features include a rose garden, gazebo and sandstone amphitheater, where outdoor and interactive theatrical events are held each summer. The mile-long Woodland Trail showcases the area’s sandstone outcroppings & streams, which is a perfect mild-to-moderate terrain hike. Recent additions include a Children’s Garden and Storybook Trail, as well as a 40’ by 60’ event pavilion surrounded by paved paths, waterfall, pond, fireplace, and grand staircase. Themed gardens include a Pollinator Garden, Japanese Garden, White Garden, and Secret Garden, allowing guests to be transported to new exotic locations without leaving Coshocton.

Featured within the gardens are a pair of 1800s-era homes and a working springhouse. Two ponds on the northside of the property help feed the annual and perennial displays through a gravity-fed cistern system. Special educational events and programs are held year-round.

3 Things to Know Before You Go
  • Clary Gardens is open Sunday – Friday during daylight hours and on and Saturday until 2 PM, when it closes to the public for weddings. Please check the Facebook page before you go for additional hours and events.
  • Maps are available in the parking lots and a public restroom can be found in the red barn.
  • Leashed pets are welcome at Clary Gardens.
