Main Street Kent Announces Final Details for July 28 & 29 Wizardly Weekend

New Activities Include Magical Bonding Ceremony, Exquisite Creatures Art Exhibit & More

Kent, Ohio – Main Street Kent’s event planning committee and downtown businesses have created some fantastic plans for Wizardly Weekend on July 28 & 29 in downtown Kent! Wizardly Weekend is presented by Meijer and Summa Health, also generously sponsored by College Town Kent, Portage Community Bank, Off the Wagon, Hometown Bank, Acorn Alley, Central Portage County VCB and The Thresholds Group. All are excited to present an incredible lineup of weekend activities.

 

Fri., July 28 plans include The Run That Shall Not Be Named 5 3/4 K — Free the Elves, a fun run for all ages and abilities. Race medals, commemorative socks and race bibs complete the magical race packet! RUN SIGN-UP.

Wobbly Wizard Bar Crawl

Wobbly Wizard Bar Crawl guests will enjoy live music by Opus 216 at check-in, house-colored jello shots, Wizardly Weekend drawstring backpacks, cocktail specials and wizardly-themed photo opportunities with their crawl passes. Tickets. The Kent Stage will feature the movie “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” at 7pm, and Standing Rock Cultural Arts’ Sidewalk Cinema will show the 2005 dark fantasy film “Mirror-Mask” (PG) at dusk at the Hometown Bank Plaza (weather permitting). Bell Tower Brewing will host a Board and Bevy Game Night, where guests can enjoy a variety of magical-themed board games from 4pm until close. Hippie Fox Rocks will host a Drum Circle from 7-9pm in the Acorn Plaza courtyard (weather permitting) and North Water Brewing Company is having an interactive herbology class with Crooked River Flowers. There will be plenty to do both inside and outside, with dozens of businesses of-fering magical menu items and merchandise, festive decorations and fun photo opportunities in the spirit of the event. Stop for some buttery beer popcorn and chocolate frogs at Popped!, color-changing drinks and buttery beer pancakes at Over Easy at the Depot, arachnid balls and garlic wizard wands at Belleria Pizza & Italian, plus potions and other fun menu items at Barflyy, Tree City Coffee, GRAZERS and other local spots. Par for the Curse - Wizardly World of Kent

On Sat., July 29, visit the Vendor Village from 11am to 6pm on Erie St., with over 40 booths featuring hand-crafted, event-themed items including plush dolls, sweet treats, creatures, magic wands, potion bot-tles and more. Kent Free Library will have a Mythical Creature story time for little ones at 10am. Par for the Curse, a 9-hole miniature golf event, will take place from noon to 5pm, featuring wizardly-themed miniature golf holes at participating businesses along N. Water St. Play golf and stop to enjoy the other at-tractions and treats along the way! Tickets Make your own house cake pop with Daisy Pops or your own mandrake with Flourish Plant Market. At Dan Smith Community Park, Swish & Flick will host a live podcast at 2pm and costume contests throughout the day. At the Hometown Bank Plaza, from 11am to 6pm, there will be wand making with Kent Junior Mothers, potion making with the Kent Community TimeBank, the Kent State Quad Ball team will host a free activity, plus there will be face painting, origami art, and a variety of other family-friendly activities. There will also be a Magical Bonding Ceremony for those who wish to celebrate and commemorate this year’s events with loved ones, complete with personalized certificates and bubble wands! Tickets The Kent Stage will show the movie “Chamber of Secrets” at 2pm. Townhall II will be offering free temporary tattoos and activities, Sun in Leo will have Aura Photography, Branded at Kent will have Quad Ball games, Kent Sportswear will feature event-themed t-shirts, and Bell Tower Brewing will host an Adult Potions Class from 4:30-6:30pm Tickets plus, the return of The Bell Tower Ball from 7-10pm, complete with floating candles and Christmas decorations! Tickets  North Water Brewing will have two sessions of free, event-themed trivia at 6pm and 8pm (first come, first serve, 21+ only). Local art gallery Troppus Projects has created an art exhibit, “Exquisite Creatures” in honor of the weekend, with a free reception on Sat., July 29, 5-7pm. “Wizardly Weekend has evolved over the years and we’re really excited to bring the event back with a good balance of fun activities that entertain guests and support our local businesses. We’ll have one road closure for a vendor area during the day on Saturday, plus photo opportunities and activities spread out around town on both days. We look forward to hosting another fun-filled weekend in Kent,” said Main Street Kent executive director Heather Malarcik. Many local bars, shops and restaurants will feature special menu items including themed cocktails, buttery beverages, chocolate wands, and other merchandise all weekend.
