FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – The 2026 summer season opens at Rabbit Run Theater with “Urinetown, the Musical”
MADISON, OH – Historic Rabbit Run Theater opens the summer 2026 season with “Urinetown, the Musical”.
With music by Mark Hollman and lyrics and book by Greg Kotis, “Urinetown, the Musical” has three Tony Awards to its credit. The musical is a comedic satire of populism, bureaucracy, politics and even musical theatre itself.
Set in a Gotham-like city where a severe drought has made water scarce and hope even scarcer, all private toilets have been banned. The young hero Bobby Strong emerges and leads his community in a fight again oppression in this musical comedy.
The show is directed by Brint Learned, executive director at Rabbit Run Community Arts Association (RRCAA). Learned has acted and directed for over 25 years at area theaters, including The Fine Arts Association, Rabbit Run Theater, Lake Erie College, The Beck Center, Lakeland Civic Theatre and Ashtabula Arts Center.
Musical direction is provided by Alex Ulle, who is the Director of Music at St. Robert and William Catholic Church and St. John of the Cross in Euclid. Ulle has also worked as an accompanist for Broadway Artists Alliance in New York and is currently finishing work on a Master’s degree in arts administration.
Choreography for the show is provided by Sarah Gordon who has performed in many productions at Rabbit Run.
Playing Officer Lockstock is Tom Greene who serves as the show’s narrator with Gabrielle Wheeler portraying the part of Little Sally. New to the Rabbit Run stage, Katie Cecchetti is playing Penelope Pennywise.
Rounding out the show’s leads are Carl Simoncic as Caldwell B. Cladwell; Machala Comenschek-Slike as Hope Cladwell and Ben Chiappone as the hero Bobby Strong.
“Urinetown, the Musical” opens May 22 and runs through June 13 and is rated 13+ for content.
Tickets for all performances are available by calling the box office at 440-428-7092, Wednesday through Sunday, 3 to 7 p.m., beginning May 20. Tickets may also be purchased or online at www.rabbitrun.org. Tickets are $30, adult; $28, senior and student; and $15 for youth 12 and under. For group packages and rates call 440-428-5913.
Guests are welcome to bring a picnic meal to enjoy on the grounds of the theater prior to a show in the picnic pavilion or courtyards.
While taking in a performance of “Urinetown, the Musical”, patrons may purchase a raffle ticket for Bunny Bucks Cash Raffle, Rabbit Run Community Arts Association’s (RRCAA)’s annual fundraiser.
The Grand Prize is $10,000; second place prize is $4,000, and the third-place prize is $1,000. Additional Bonus Prizes, each with a value of at least $50, are being awarded weekly through Aug. 24.
Only 1,000 tickets will be sold. Tickets are $50 each. The cash prizes will be announced Aug. 29. Tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at 440-428-7092, the RRCAA office at 440-428-5913 or online at rabbitrun.org.
